Plan the holiday around the healing, not the other way round

One trip or two? How long treatment takes

Some treatments are finished in a week. Others need the bone or gums to heal for months between two visits. Knowing which is which saves you a second flight you did not plan for.

Typical timings only. Your dentist sets the plan for your case, and it can change after the examination.

Usually one trip

  • Veneers and crowns: often about 5 to 8 working days: preparation, temporaries, try-in, fitting.
  • Teeth whitening: one or two appointments over a day or two.
  • Root canal treatment: one to three visits over a few days, sometimes followed by a crown.
  • Bonding and fillings: usually a day or two.

Usually two trips

  • Implants: the implant is placed on the first trip. The bone needs to heal around it, often for about three to six months, before the final crown is fitted on a second trip.
  • All-on-4 and similar: fixed temporary teeth are often fitted within days of surgery; the final bridge follows on a later trip, after healing.
  • Bone grafts and sinus lifts: add healing time before implants can be placed or loaded.

Planning the days

  1. Count working days: clinics are often closed or busy at weekends and on public holidays.
  2. Add a buffer day or two at the end for adjustments.
  3. Put beach and swimming days before surgery, not after.
  4. Ask the clinic in your request how many days and trips it expects. On dental.holiday every quote states both.
Tip. A cheaper quote that needs an extra trip can cost more in the end. Add flights and hotel nights for each trip before you compare.
